ETA 6497-1 Watch Movement Redesign

Project Type: CAD Modeling & Engineering Design
Role: Reverse Engineering, CAD, Functional Redesign

Overview
This project involved creating a precise CAD model of the Swiss ETA 6497-1 watch movement from the 1950s — capturing the exact measurements and preserving full functionality of the original mechanical components.

Approach
Using NX Siemens, I meticulously measured, modeled, and assembled each part of the movement. The process also included the creation of detailed technical sketches, ensuring full documentation of the assembly and function.

After recreating the original design, I explored potential improvements, focusing on weight reduction through skeletonization while maintaining the movement’s mechanical integrity and aesthetic character.

Outcome
The refined version of the watch movement achieved meaningful weight savings through structural optimization, without compromising on function — balancing tradition with modern engineering.
